Kyoto Yakimono Week – WAN wan ONE

About the Gojozaka & Chawanzaka Network

Between the clear waters of the Kamo River and the gentle green slopes of Higashiyama, the area rising from Gojozaka through Chawanzaka to Kiyomizu-dera Temple is the birthplace of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki. Over the centuries, many master craftspeople and ceramic artists have passed on distinctive techniques and designs. Building on this accumulated technical and spiritual heritage, they continue to create innovative, original works and have led the world of ceramics across Japan. Wholesalers and retailers stand side by side to introduce these fine works to a wider audience and connect them with customers. Encouraging one another to excel, they have formed a distinctive cultural district within Kyoto.

Gojozaka Gojozaka Gojozaka

In light of this history, we believe it is deeply meaningful to revitalize the area by renewing recognition of Gojozaka and Chawanzaka as a center of tradition and creativity in arts and crafts, with ceramics at its heart. For this reason, we who work with ceramics here are establishing the Gojozaka & Chawanzaka Network, so that, as bearers of this culture, we can work together across the fields of creation and sales. We aim to protect our traditions and culture, contribute to a better community for the future, and share the area’s attractions and activities widely, both in Japan and abroad.
